We will do the following things that we don’t do at the moment to improve our social impact.

1st Commitment

Further build on our long-standing commitment to volunteering whereby we make up to 3 days’ paid Special Leave available to staff over a rolling 12 month period, by:

  • promoting this facility frequently to staff via periodic presentations to individual teams

  • undertaking more regular analysis of the wide range of charities and good causes being assisted, and the specific activities being undertaken, in order to assess the benefit both to the recipient and the volunteer

Footnote : the above commitment will complement and contribute towards HIE’s approach to community wealth building

Geographical location of impact: Across the entire HIE area

Seek further opportunities for maximising the economic and community benefit to the region of Gaelic language and culture, both from a business and a social perspective.

Work alongside key partners as appropriate to ensure a co-ordinated approach, and encourage staff to develop a degree of proficiency in the language in order to engage with native speakers in the Outer Hebrides in particular.

Continue to refresh our Gaelic Plan on a regular basis.

Geographical location of impact: Across the entire HIE area but particularly in the Outer Hebrides
